PC-TCS/DCS
PC-TCS/DCS DC Servo Motor Telescope Control System
PC-TCS/DCS is the DC Servo version of COMSOFTs
telescope control system software PC-TCS suite. Designed
to work with standard DC Servo system technology which
use DC Motors, Tachometers and amplifiers to provide
a high gain velocity loop. PC-TCS/DCS uses Digital to
Analog Converters (DACs) to command velocity from this
external Motor/Tach/Amplifier system.
The velocity generated by PC-TCSs
proprietary servo control software is based on positional
feedback information gleaned from incremental or absolute
encoders. A precision crystal controlled oscillator
provides time hacks via system interrupts for accurate
servo loop control and system time keeping.
External inputs from the telescope control
paddle, limits detection circuitry, and Hard Stow
switches can be read by PC-TCS via I/O interface cards
which also provide TTL output control capabilities
for dome, focus and optional user defined TTL driven
functions.
Together, the DC Servo velocity loop
along with encoders and the PC-TCS/DCS software provide
a closed loop servo system capable of meeting and
or exceeding the requirements of even the most demanding
astronomical observing program. PC-TCS handles all
slews from target to target, tracking at sidereal
and non-sidereal rates, pointing and tracking corrections
including Periodic Error Corrections (for worm wheel
driven systems), communications with external computers
and ancillary telescope related hardware, all bound
together by a convenient and efficient user interface
designed for productivity in all astronomical applications.
PC-TCS/DCS Pricing . . .
Since DC servo systems must
be carefully matched to the mechanical system it will
control, PC-TCS/DCS systems are custom made for the
target telescope. Motor and amplifier sizing is unique
to each telescope and therefore COMSOFT must review
the system requirements before a price quote can be
made. Pricing is currently running between $25,000.00
and $60,000.00 for DCS systems depending on complexity
and torque requirements. Please
contact COMSOFT for an estimate.
